I would have to believe that anyone who split a log at home and brought it with them camping would know all the safety rules of burning fire of a controlled environment and a have a small fire extinguisher. Sure, now all you need is to carry a splitting maul with you, so you can find the perfect size log waiting for you in the forest that will distribute 4 perfectly angled pieces of firewood. It’s called a Swedish fire, just don’t cut completely through you can still stuff with paper and firestarters and put a cooking pot on top.
